Silver Point

This is a famous Lake District walk. Great for all members of the family as it includes a boat ride at the beginning! It is only possible to do this walk (using the lake-steamer) during the season when the boat service operates. Allow plenty of time for the walk and take a morning boat.

Parking - near the pier at Glenridding to take the steamer to its’ first stop, Howtown.

 1. From the pier at Howtown turn right onto the lakeside path. As the path begins to climb follow it to the right. It is signed Patterdale and Sandwick.

2. Follow the path round the headland and through Hallinhag Wood. Beyond the wood the path leaves the shore over open fields to cross a beck. After crossing the beck turn left up the road, for a little way.  Turn right, after the cottages, to take the path leading uphill alongside a wall.

3. Cross a footbridge over a beck to continue with the path around the promontory. The steadily climbing path leads to higher ground giving, arguably, some of the finest views in Lakeland.

4. Keep right after bridges to the lakeshore. The lake makes a sharp turn to the south at Silver Point. As you proceed to a path junction, keep right and the path eventually becomes a track leading to Side Farm.

5. At the farmyard ahead turn right onto the track and right again onto the road across the valley bottom to Patterdale. The pavement ends, but there is a path along the bank on the left of the road which leads to the field near the pier at Glenridding.
